Weaver Rose at it again!

I have been working on turning the Weaver Rose draft #10 he calls "The American Beauty" or "White House" into a wearable project. It's a bit different from your traditional overshot where blocks share threads. But it's overshot according to the book: The Weaving Roses of Rhode Island.

I have started putting it on the loom.

Weaver Rose would read this from left to right
He is showing the placement of the threads and in what order
he wants them to be in.
This is what I think he is telling me. This is how I would record it. I will record it right to left.

Library Books

You just never know what you might find. I went to my local library book sale and found these books.

How about some March 1974 suggested prices for Leclerc Looms.
The Mira:
36B with wire heddles $307, or the 36A with steel heddles $325
The Nilus:
36-4B $370, 4 harness, wire heddles or 36-4B with steel heddles $$386

I sure do like the price of reeds. A 36" one was only $8.25!!!!!!

Thinking Overshot

Ya know....... I have been thinking about this Weaver Rose No. 10 draft and am wondering what it would look like using two colors. I think I would want to use red and blue, but showing it in red and black so it will show up better on screen. I am changing colors at each block change. What do you think? I think it gives it a more complicated look.

Working on Projects - Handwork

Going to crochet an edge on this lap robe. I put a filet edge on the first blanket, this one I am going for a more of a big ruffled effect. Here I am showing you the set-up row.

My main objective with this project was to see if I could weave a length of overshot yardage and then put two panels together. That worked fine, but it wasn't going to be wide enough for a full size bed. So I cut it in two and ended up with two lap robes. I guess they could be called baby blankets, but I might be needing a lap robe some time soon...so lap robes they are! And since I ended up with two, I can put them in 'the closet' for me and DH.

I am sure some of you have forgotten, but I have a 'closet' where I put different things I make for gift giving in the future. Sometimes, things stay in there for years and some times, they are hardly dry before I give them away.

These lab robes were woven with 10/2 cotton as warp and tabby with an acrylic green weft. I found this green at a flea market. It looks like wool, but is acrylic. I think it might have been intended for a knitting machine. It only had on the label that it was 100% acrylic. The size is like Harrisville Shetland wool. The great thing is that it washable. I am sure when I use it, I will be spilling my coffee and muffin on it -so being washable is a good thing!

More Out Of Pocket-ness

One of my weaving guilds has been studying the drafts of Weaver Rose of Rhode Island. He has one labeled No. 10. Here is what I 'think' he had in mind. I have expanded the given threading, (I have some errors). It will need some tweeking. I am showing the treadling as drawn-in or 'tromp as writ'.

Now wouldn't this make a nice pillow...maybe in two colors.... hummmmmm, more thinking to do!

Out of pocket

Out of pocket.
This is just some overshot blog candy, and a very dusty spinning wheel. I may be away from my loom, but I am thinking about my ticking. I need to get that on the loom before the snow flyers.

Ticking is a three shaft twill. I was told by Pam Howard at J C Campbell Folkschool, that ticking needed to be woven tight enough for a feather not to be able to poke through.

Working on Projects - Overshot

Since I am trying to get some project completed,  I thought I would go ahead and sew this pillow top into a "pillow". I have had this pillow topper finished for - maybe - a couple of years. Well, now it has become what it's always wanted to be: 'a pillow'!!!

I believe this was when I was doing some creative overshot. I would take a traditional overshot draft and treadle it with a different set of treadlings instead of just treading 'tromp as writ'. Came up with some really great designs on one threading.

Even though I am trying to learn everything I can about single two-tie, my first love is overshot.
