Boundweave on 4 shafts

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

I have had fun playing with boundweave, but I should have done it on a heaver loom. Or added weight to this loom. I used a linen warp and wool weft. Hopefully it will snug up once I wet set it. I played around with the treadling just to see what I could do. I think I got some interesting motifs.

As you can see, if you look back at yesterdays post,  I was weaving upside down! I call this my "public side."

Bound To Weave

Boundweave has been on this Baby Wolf for so long that my linen is breaking! I guess I should not have this loom right beside the heater vent!! I am using a damp cloth to keep the breakage down. Next time I will not wait so long to weave this off!

No rhyme or reason, just weaving for fun.

February Weaving

One of the fun things about getting together with other weavers is to see what they have been up to. Here we have Rossanna, Marilynn, and Anita sharing.

Rossanna again wowed us with her Kumihimo weaving.

Marilynn has used silk/wool to create two beautiful shawls with awesome drape.

Anita has used her small pin loom for theses sachets. 

Woven Shibori and Overshot

Remember this?????

An overshot runner I was weaving..... it is finished now.

Now I am weaving some woven Shibori on the rest of this warp.

I ran out of the white 5/2 cotton resist thread and started using some yellow 5/2 cotton. You can see your mistakes better when you use a colored thread. I have not had any trouble using a colored resist thread. (But I do pick light colors.)

I don't know for sure how much yardage I will have when I am finished, but should have at least a yard or two. May not dye this until this summer.

More Creative Overshot

I am now weaving ad lib..... I am still keeping my overshot blocks together: 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 1-4

I am just having a bit of fun. Not sure where it will take me, but having fun. When I get to the middle...when ever that will be...... I hope I have kept good records so I can reverse.

For this runner, I am having a white turned hem.

Warp: 10/2 white tencel
Weft: 8/2 royal tencel
Tabby: 20/2 tencel

Another Diva Christmas

Guild Gifts

One of the fun things about the holidays is all the parties that the guilds have. Food, exchanges, gifts, friendship... the list goes on and on.....

Here are a few 'small' things I have received over the years. I have plans for the two buttons, but haven't found the right time to use them yet. The bigger on is felted, the smaller is a bit of hand woven fabric.

If you have time, you might weave a bookmark or just crochet around a card from last year. Sometimes it is the small gifts we receive that stay in our hearts the longest. The tiny bear was knitted with handspun yarn. And how fun is the sheep? The paper weight is a wonderful way to display a bit of hand woven fabric.

Quilts were once threads just looking for a home.

Inspiration!

Stopped in the PIZZA AMERICANA in Willow Springs, MO for a bite to eat. I was blown away with these quilts!! Food was great, by the way...

Who says we can't take our handwoven fabric and make some great quilts too. (I think that is a challenge for those of you who can sew!)  You could even dye the fabric for the colors you wanted. But for now, just enjoy these awesome quilts!! Sorry I forgot to get the name of the quilter.

Samples to Giifts

Here is another photo album using a piece of plain weave and a handmade button and beads. There are lots of different small items you can create using your left over samples. Right now, I seem to be creating photo albums.

I try to always do a sample of whatever I am weaving so I can put it in my notebook with my weaving notes. Sometimes, the samples are large enough that I can have a small sample and enough left over to make something with. Pin cushions are also great to make for gifts, take only a bit of fabric, and even if you keep them for yourself, you have a reminder of what you learned.

October Fun

Here I am with my display for the Mountain Grove, MO October celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the Bandstand on the square.

Most of the items I am displaying are table runners. It was fun learning the different weave structures.

Autumnfest Vintage Quilt & Textile Show

Come join the fun at the Mountain Grove Central Arts and History Center on October 3rd. The display will be held at the Central Arts Council and History Center inside the "old rock jail". I will be displaying several woven and crochet pieces. We are celebrating the 100th Year of the Mountain Grove Bandstand!! Should be fun!

From a Sample to Finished Project

Here is a sample I did while exploring summer and winter polychrome. Just the right size for a photo album. I think this piece of fabric has been sitting around for a couple of years waiting for it's 'moment' in the light!

I have added a small 'sample' of kumihimo as accent to this album. So really, this is just a couple of samples of things I made while learning to weave summer and winter polychrome and kumihimo. Go check your samples and see if you are inspired to turn your samples into something. Or wait and see what the sample wants to be. Or....maybe it just wants to be a sample!

If I told you that I am threading the heddles 1 - 3 - 2- 3 , 1 - 4 - 2 - 4 ..... what am I doing?

I am working on a new project. I have wound 10 yards and have it pulled through the reed at 30 epi. I am now threading the heddles. Slow but steady!

Weaving Friends

Always very kind, helpful, cheerful, loving, thoughtful, doting, warm, my devoted weaving friends awarded me a great gift for my time spent at the weaving workshop.

Strips

When you want to wind a warp with strips being the main idea, where do you turn to?

You go to the kitchen and find the Flatbread Pizza box, the Folgers coffee can and the Coffeemate. I wrote down the numbers by the bar codes and had my strips. No math, no thinking involved. Just follow the codes. (pizza, coffee, and fake cream--yummy!)

Reminds me of Christmas candy!

I am having fun just winding warps for future projects. I am planning on this being a set of towels for a red and white kitchen.

Wagon Wheels Moving On

I have come to the end of this warp. It is threaded to the pattern "Wagon Wheels" from "The Weaving Book of Peace and Patience" by Isadora Safner and Diane Piette. It was a fun project. I only put four yards on so didn't have much to play with. After I wove two different pieces, one green the other red, I went out-side-the-overshot-box. Taking the treadling from another one of their drafts, I treadled "Double Compass Work the Handsome Way." I still have my wagon wheels, but the diagonal line has been broken and give a different look to the area between the wheels.

This is showing the Double Compass Work the Handsome Way while it is still on the loom. Notice the diagonal line is not there.

Now it is off the loom and this is what the non-public (back) side looks like. Or I might make this the public side!

Here are the two different treadlings. Notice the different joining areas between the wheels.

Sorry, but life has gotten in the way of my weaving and blogging. But I do have some weaving news.


On Wednesday, September 10, 2014 I have been asked to give a lecture for the Ozarks Celebration Festival at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. The lecture will be held at the Plaster Student Union starting at 7 P.M.


I will be discussing how I found weaving and what makes it my passion. I hope to allow those in attendance to try their hand at throwing the shuttle too!
