Part Four - Beam

Now I have all the heddles threaded I need to wind the warp onto the back beam. (I don't think there are any errors, but will check that once I get beamed on and can weave plain weave.)

Remember my blocks are:

1-3-2-3

1-4-2-4

4-2-3-2

4-1-3-1

And just like traditional summer and winter, my tabbies are 1-2 vs. all the pattern treadles. (3-4 in this case.)

My pattern treadles will be:

1-4

2-4

1-3

2-3

I am going to use the tie down order of 2-1-1-2 and tabby order of a-b-a-b.

Working on weaving a baby blanket with four blocks on four shafts of summer and winter. For those of you in the "know" - summer and winter is called "Single Two-Tie!!

Playing On The Table Loom

Yes, I am still threading the heddles on the four blocks on four shafts of summer and winter in the loom room. But, I did walk by the table loom and thought...hum... let's see what this looks like.

I am using a painted warp. This is the single two tie threading woven on opposites without tabby using red and green alternately. I think this might be one of those things where I won't really know how it really looks until I get it off the loom. After I finish this one bookmark, maybe I better go back to regular single two-tie (summer and winter).

I have cut the warp! Now to tied the fringe.

We Be Done

At the 29 inch mark. The tension is starting to rev up.

At the 37 inch mark. You can hear a pin drop from across the room.

Ta Da! We be done!!!!

Do you see? Do you see? Yes, I am nearing the knots on the back!!!  I don't usually take this long to finish a project. So far, I don't think there are any errors. But will know for sure after I weave the next few inches so I can get if off the loom and see.

I really like how this looks like up close and personal. Since the light pink is much thicker than the dark pink, I am anxious to see how this will wash up. Will it have a 3D texture?

Starting Second Half Of Scarf

While weaving away, I was thinking I read in the 'Weft-Faced Pattern Weaves Tabby to Taquete' by Nancy Arthur Hoskins, that there was another way to weave this. An alternate way if you will.

I have been weaving
Pattern A+ tie 1
Pattern B+ tie 1
Pattern A+ tie 2
Pattern B+ tie 2

Her other way would be:
Pattern A+ tie 1
Pattern A+ tie 2
Pattern B+ tie 1
Pattern B+ tie 2

Pattern A is the opposite of Pattern B. I have 5 such pattern combinations. Here are my pattern treadles. Each 'set' has an A an B.

                                                    AB   AB     AB    AB    AB
I am not sure what the difference would be, but maybe I will try that if I have any warp left to play with.

Yes, the weaving has resumed.

 

One thing I did do with this warp that I don't usually do is.......... I have two threads in the last dent and the last heddle. Very seldom do I put two threads in the same heddle, but with this thread being so fine I thought it might help with breakage.

 

And - cross your fingers - I have not had a broken edge thread. I did have some when doing the sampling on this THREADING but not on this 12/2 rayon WARP. (I think that is what it is - label gone).

Tied Weave Progress

I have gotten to the 18 inch mark... It is not that I don't have time to weave, I just really need to get my DD's present done! Hopefully soon I will be mailing her some Yoga Socks.

A Little Weaving

Not much progress on the scarf. I am trying to get those Yoga Socks done. But I did do a few repeats to reach the 11 inch mark.

Taquete

I continue to weave on my summer and winter on opposites without tabby scarf.

 

According to the book Weft-Faced Pattern Weaves Tabby to Taquete by Nancy A. Hoskins "taquete, a weft-faced compound weave that is also knows as - weft-faced summer and winter weave, weft-faced polychrome summer and winter (without tabby), and weft faced two-tie unit weave." I have a copyright book of 1992, but I believe the book has been re-printed. 

Errors Fixed, Scarf continues

OK, now I am back on track. I am using a mirror to check the back side as I weave. But I will keep my eye on that Polar Vortex that everyone is talking about.

Now I don't want to cause any scarey thoughts, but you need to know that Summer and Winter on opposites without tabby is also called TAQUETE.  Now you know!

Working on my CWTW study group samples.I think either side could be the public side. That is a nice thing about summer and winter.

It's amazing the different looks a person can get on one threading. I think that is what intrigues me the most. This is the last of the sampling of summer and winter experiment . Hope you had as much fun as I did!

Sampling Almost Done

 

I have been working on this summer and winter on opposites without tabby for a while now, and I don't remember some of the things I have tried. I need to finish up this little bit of warp and then cut off and see what I "gots".  If you look real close you can see some of the floats. That is in the area where I will cut my samples apart, so I am not to worried about them. I think my weaving was correct, a shaft was sticking.




Now I like this. White warp, blue and dark blue wefts.

Just Four Minutes More

 

Ah............. just four samples more.......... then I can move on. It looks like I will not have enough warp left for a scarf and I will have to decide if I want to tie-on or what. Here is my draft with notes I have been making as I have been weaving. I even remembered to measure the on-loom width and length of each sample. Recording my adventures with my weaving makes me a better weaver. Or so I think.

I am having just to much fun with this. Here are two examples of summer and winter on opposites without tabby. Here I have kept the black and green wefts and now have a red warp and a blue warp.

S&W and More Color

I was wondering what the draft I am working on would look like if the warp was red, the pattern wefts were black and green.....and I did some dancing on the treadles too.

So this is single two-tie on opposites without tabby. Only two shuttles.  Of course it would look much different in the actual cloth version. And squint your eyes and think what the back might look like. Hummmm!
