Rep Weave Runner

Here is my rep weave runner from Kelly Marshall's workshop. I was able to weave it 40 inches long. It is 15 inches wide. I also got one place mat using her treadling she handed out at the workshop. We also learned how to design our own drafts using from 2-10 shafts. Her samples were outstanding!

By me trying out different treadling, I was able to see how to reverse colors, how the solid strips worked, and how blending colors in the warp helped add dimension. A great workshop! Find more about her on her web sight. (kellymarshall.com)

Kelly Marshall Rep Workshop

WOW! Kelly came, she talked and demonstrated and we listened. We all just hope we remember what she told us. But she does have a great book to help us remember. We were blown away with her awesome examples. Some of the most beautiful ones were woven on only TWO shafts!!! Her color play is wonderful.

This is my 'sample' place mat showing lots of different variations with this threading and tie-up that Kelly provided for the workshop. (I used my own color way.)

Rep Weave Practice

Almost forgot, but here is my 'practice' rep weave place mat. Our workshop with Kelly Marshall was postponed and will be later. (end of July)

Looking forward to the workshop because this mat may be OK, but it has lots of "uky" places.

1. I couldn't really figure out the edges very well. Lots of long loops on edge.

2. I used 5/2 as the thin when I should have used 10/2.  I read my notes after doing this and Kelly says to use 10/2 for thin if using 3 strands of sugar & cream for the thick. The 5/2 was for the hem part.

Several reason to wait until the workshop to learn how to weave this and get some great place mats.

But thought you would like to see what I have so far. I like my colors and think they will brighten up my kitchen.

Rep Weave Up-date

Another project I am working on is Rep Weave. I am getting my loom ready for the April 1-2 Rep workshop. We have Kelly Marshall coming to share her talent and information with us. I have not 'lashed' on but a couple of times, so I am anxious to see if this works. Dawn gave a great lesson on this at one of our guild meetings. I sure wish I had listened better.

I am looking forward to weaving some REP in April. I love my colors!!

Still Rep-ing

I continue to work on getting my Rep warp onto my loom. I may have gotten carried away with my color blending!!

Rep Workshop Prep

Trying to set up my loom for an April Rep Weave Workshop. Kelly Marshall is going to come down to our neck of the woods to help us understand this weave structure.

I have a 12 dent reed and have 4 threads per dent. Of those 4 threads I will thread them through the heddles as two working ends.  Because I am using my Baby Wolf for the workshop, I can thread the reed and the heddles as I go. I hope this keeps me from making too many errors!

I am using my handy dandy cross holder. This lets me have both my hands free to thread  the reed and heddles. I found this tip in an old Handwoven. (Sorry- don't know what year- maybe 1980's.)

This is showing that I have two working ends (4 threads) in each reed slot.

I am threading the heddles as I go along. I have two  ends in each heddle. 

Another way to dress the loom: My friend, Becky, is going to wind all the background ends and sley the reed, then wind all the pattern ends and go back across the reed and sley the pattern ends. Then she will thread the heddles. Either way should work! 

Rep and Done

Finished my place mats in Rep Weave. I was a bit disappointed in that the weft wasn't completely covered. I think for the Kelly Marshall workshop that she is calling for a closer sett.

My goal was to get used to weaving with a ski shuttle. A bit different than throwing a nice boat shuttle. I used some mop cotton on a couple as the weft and 24/3 cotton for tabby. On the other mats I used three strands of  'Sugar and Cream' . Two of white and one of a mostly white with blue and green flakes. And again the tabby was 24/3 cotton. Because the weft did show some, the little bit of color in the weft made for a nice color effect.

Plain Weave and Rep

Kelly Marshall is coming down to my neck of the woods for a Rep Weave workshop in April. I wanted to try wrapping the loom since it sounded strange.... but didn't want to buy any new materials. ...so I am using left overs! (carpet warp)

I might get a couple of place mats out of this. Just trying to get into the rhythm. I have had this mop cotton on the shelf for ages. I think it was for a rug, it is kinda rough. Or as we say in the fiber world:   "natural"!!

This threading is from the Joanne Tallarovic Rep Weave Book. I have Kelly's book now and will be reading it in preparation for her workshop.

This draft is only on two shafts! I am going for an 8 shaft draft when I go for Kelly's workshop in April. Love Kelly's color work.
