Treadle Dancing Socks

Hey, instead of calling these 'yoga socks' maybe I will call them my treadle dancing socks! I dyed the yarn last year. Now we know what it wanted to be!

Another Pair of Socks?

When you can't get to the loom to weave, it is nice to have a handy project too keep those fiber impulses busy. I had some left over yarn from the hat project and I think there just be enough for another pair of Yoga Socks.

And Then There Were Two - Socks

I don't know if you would call them socks. Maybe 'half socks'? Anyway, I knew what my daughter wanted so I knitted them and have mailed them and hopefully they will be at her house in time for her birthday.

Yoga Socks Continue

It's coming back to me.... knitting in the round. It has been a while since I have knitted a sock. But this is going much faster than a regular sock... no heel or toe! I did have to cast off and cast on in the round. Now that took some time to remember how to do that. (the casting on part). I went with the backwards cast on. What ever works, huh?

Knitted Yoga Socks

I had a request from dear daughter for some knitted yoga socks. So here I go.....maybe I will have them done in time for her birthday later this month.

 

 

I had to find the needles, find some yarn that she can put in the washing machine, and get busy. Not a very good 'girl' color, but they should do well in a washing machine.... 50% superwash wool, 25% bamboo and 25% nylon.

 

Yoga Socks = no heel or toe.

 

New Knitted Hat

You know what happens when you knit one hat???? You have to knit another. It's a law. I am sure I read somewhere that you can't just knit one. Or was that you can't eat just one cookie???

And as you can see, I am still using my paper clip as a marker.

I kept thinking I needed some worsted weight yarn until I remember all this sock yarn I have. So I will be wearing my socks on my head.

Stopping To Smell the Trees

Sometimes you just need to stop and smell the flowers, or as in this case, the trees! I don't really think the tree has a smell, but sure does make me want to go dye something. Well, hey, I think I have some sock yarn that is needing to be just that. And maybe I will find the perfect pink to match the tree! After all, every girl needs a pair of hand dyed hand knit pink socks.

Anyone for Left-over Socks?

Look what I found!!

I cannot believe I haven't finished these. I usually knit on socks while I am in a waiting room somewhere, but the last couple of months have been waiting-room free. A very good thing!! Good for me and my family members, not so good for my sock knitting.

I will put these on the back burner and continue with my MidWest Weavers knitting project. I am a little over half done with that project. I will unveil it in June.

So the socks will be waiting in the wings for when I need to do some sock knitting. Sometimes you just need to knit on socks!  And besides you never know when you will be stuck in a traffic jam on Highway 63 in rural Missouri. 

One time we waited about thirty minutes while they cleaned up a truck that had overturned that was carrying cows!! I got some quality knitting done that time because I had socks on the  needles!! Good for me, bad for the cows.

Purple Socks Anyone?

Still knitting on the purple socks. Here I am working on the heel of sock number two. These may end up being mine. I felted a pair the other day, so I need a replacement pair.

I did get all the socks knitted for family members and mailed. But I was hoping to get a couple of scarves knitted too, but just didn't. Maybe they will be done by next year.

The oranges are from my cousin and his wife who live in Florida. They are Yummy! Thanks Lyle and RuthAnn.

Festivas Sock Tree

Thinking I might need to take a deep breath and step away from Weaver Rose .... I decided to decorate for the holidays. (still looking for that temple)

I had to smile when our son called to say that his outside Christmas lights weren't working correctly. My outside decorations do not require electricity! 

This is some of the socks, that over the years have felted or lost their partner. The 'garland' is the left over yarn after I have knitted the socks. And the two big stocking are there just in case Santa can't find the chimney!

A Sock of A Different Color

Weaver does not live on weaving alone. Some times we need to sit back and smell the wool sock yarn!

Here the latest pair of socks with my directions. I did a little bit of pattern work on the top of this sock so I needed to write down what I did so I would do the other sock the same. I remember one pair of socks I knitted  a few years ago, while DH was in the hospital, that had a bit of lace work on the cuff area. I ended up with one sock two inches longer than the other. Lesson Learned! Keep notes!!

Winter Socks and New Warp

Got the latest socks done.

Putting the Weaver Rose #156 draft on the loom.  Thinking of using light brown tabby and dark brown pattern on this very white warp. Will check the stash to make sure I have enough of both colors.  But first, I will wind 450 ends on my warping board. That should take a few days as there are parties to attend. More on that later................................ 



Socks on the Needles

As you know, I always have a pair of socks on the needles. It's my way of relaxing. Here is a pair I am working on that I dyed back in Sept. 2012. I mention the year, because we are almost ready for 2013!!! And......I have been considering what to weave for MidWest Weavers Conference that will be in June of next year. Maybe I will see some of you who check in on this blog there. Look here if interested: Midwest Weavers Association 

Back to the socks! When I was dying these socks, I used the 'hit and miss' method. Some times it is great to just go with the flow without any thinking or preplanning. I am knitting these a little differently than I usually do, also. I almost always knit a six inch- knit two, purl two- cuff. But for these I have a two inch K2P2 cuff and have knitted even for an a total of eight inches for the cuff area. They will be more like slouch socks, just for me! They remind me of all the fall leaves that are almost all on the ground now.

BF and Another Pair of Socks

Back home again and ready to tackle the summer and winter finger tip towels I have on the Baby Wolf. Maybe by tomorrow I can get some 'shuttle time' in.

As you can see, my BF Rossanna like the socks I finished. I kept calling them my Pansy socks as the colors remind me of Pansy's.

Socks, once again

You knew it would happen sooner or later, another pair of socks!

This is some sock yarn that I dyed at that Sept 2012 dye workshop. I like how the colors spiral down the sock. I am not sure how I managed to keep the yellow and purple from running together and making brown (and there seems to be a bit of green in there too). As you can tell by my comments, I didn't keep track of what colors or in what order I was doing what. I love to just let the colors land where they want to, so that each pair of socks will end up being one of a kind.



It also helps to have a few Apple-Cinnamon Muffins around while knitting socks! Who is bringing the coffee?




 

Sock Project is Done!

I don't know why I keep calling these special socks, 'socks'? My friend intends to hang these by her chimney with care. So they are really 'stockings;! I was able to get stocking number six finished. This was a fun project.

Back to the Special Sock Project

Now that the summer and winter workshop is history, it's time to finish the special sock project. I am attempting to knit six socks using sock yarn that my friend Janice dyed on Sept 29, 2012. She dyed the yarn and I am knitting the socks for her. She will use the socks as Christmas Socks.

The great thing about knitting these socks is they didn't have to match. Of course when I knit socks for me, I don't care if the match or not, but others do. And I usually knit a six inch cuff for women and eight inch cuff for men using the knit two, purl two rib. But for these, the cuff is straight knitting with a ten inch cuff. They would make really great 'slouch top' womens socks (if she doesn't like them for Christmas Socks).

Sock Number Five ! ! ! ! !

Special Sock Number Five has been completed. I am surprised that I have been able to knit these five sock just since Sept 29th. I just kept knitting because I needed to see what colors would come up next. Janice did a great job dying these socks blanks.

Some of you may remember my BF* Rossanna. She has been cheering me along while I have been working on this project. She wishes that Janice has dyed some sock yarn for her.( Maybe next year at the annual Diva Dye Workshop! )

Sock Four!

I have sock number four done!! Now onto sock number five........

IN THE MEAN TIME, for the workshop I am making copies of drafts and other worksheets. I am also gathering up supplies and shuttles to take. Gosh we have lots of toys we use when we weave, don't we?

Three of a Kind

Here are the three socks I have gotten done, so far. I know they are for Christmas, but just had to share this October painting my very special Mother-in-law did. She took up painting after she turned 80. Who knows what she would have done, had she known she could paint.

I am slowly working on the foot of sock number four. But it was such a nice day I didn't do much knitting or weaving or getting ready for the workshop or..... I stopped to smell the flowers!
