Fringe and Beads

Here I am putting beads in the fringe of the Woven Crackle Shibori Scarf. I do this before I pull the resist threads.
I will use four threads in my twisted fringe.

I pick up the beads on my "dental looper" (It's what kids use to help clean their braces. Your dentist may have some)

This is the looper with the beads on it.

I will slip the  thread the looper.

I am now sliding the beads from the looper onto the thread.

I place the beads where I want them to be. Now I am ready to twist the fringe.

Gloom with a Twist

Looking out in the back yard makes me want to grab a blanket and take a nap.  I need to be working on some project I have going..................but it's a "uky" day!

This poor dogwood tree may not bloom in the spring. It is really old.

I have started twisting fringe on one of the scarves I cut off the Macomber loom.  I need to get the fringe twisted so I can wash it to see what it really look like. One small step, one project almost done!!

Overshot - Fringe Treatment

Hemstitching is but a distant memory. Now onto the next phase - fringe. Some may think this is double work, but I like the way it looks. I almost always hemstitch and twist fringe on the same project.

For the brown runner, I am just twisting the fringe in groups of six ends. This may be all I do for this runner.

Now this purple/red-purple runner is a different story. Because the white fringe seems to much of a distraction from the body of the runner, I am adding some of the purple and red-purple threads in the fringe area.

It's giving me the barber-shop look, but I think it will work. I measure the length I need of both colors, and use a needle to attach it to the hemstitching area. Each braid will have eight ends, four of the white and four of the color threads.

Next step will be to wash, dry, iron and put in the Gift Closet! Let me know if you are on my list. ;-)

Old Gives Way To The New

I have the new warp tied onto the old warp. Next step is to beam it. I give it a little shake when pulling it through the reed and heddles.

While I get that warp on the loom, I take time to twist fringe. It's almost like watching grass grow. Slow and steady gets the job done. A rolling stone gathers no moss. Why did the chicken cross the road? The mind wanders when twisting fringe.......

I am twisting from each edge toward the center so that I can hide the fact that my final fringe will be smaller than the rest. Each twist has six threads, except the center, which will have four.

Sparkle Plain Weave

Now that I have my sparkle fabric off the loom, it's time to twist the fringe. then I will hand wash it and let it drip dry and then give it a gentle ironing.

Twisting Fringe

Found my faithful fringe twister.  The great thing about twisting fringe is you get to touch each thread again and feel the texture of the threads and see how the colors blend in the twist. It takes a while, but it's a great TV watching activity.

Finishing Work

I have hemstitched and cut the scarf off the loom leaving a 6 inch fringe.
Now that the scarf is off the loom and I am adding some black threads to the fringe area. Using a crochet hook, I am pulling the loop through at the hemstitched area making a simple slip stitch.

Then I will cut to the correct length.

Now I will use my trusty fringe twister.
