Indigo Dyed Woven Shibori Towel

Woven Shibori

If you will look back to my March 26, 2016 post you will see I was working on weaving with a white warp, a colored weft, and using a single dye color. Here is the finished towel. It has just taken me a little time to get it washed, hemmed and pressed.

My dye was an indigo vat. The indigo is more muted than I envisioned. Not really the red-white-blue I was wanting, but very acceptable.

Here is the rest of our show and tell from the dye workshop we held in June. Gosh, I was really impressed with the textiles and color ways. I think I have given some of them a bite to continue weaving more using the Woven Shibori technique.

Rossanna not only wove and dyed this great scarf, she then used her braiding technique  Kumihimo to make a necklace to match!!!!

Woven Shibori Show and Tell part 2

More wonderful textiles from the Woven Shibori Dye workshop July 2016.

Janice did a shibori wrap on this commercial fabric.

Kayla had some really great towels. I think I like the one she is holding the best. Or maybe the indigo one..... I love them all!

Woven Shibori Show and Tell part 1

Tuesday was the big reveal from our dye workshop held in June. Our main focus was on dying something we wove using the woven shibori technique. And did we ever have some impressive textiles. We also dyed the usual warp chains and a few other items. Here is a look at some of the fun!

Woven Shibori Towels with Dish Rags

Here are three of my woven Shibori towels with their matching knitted dish rags. I am very pleased with the towels and even the way the dish rags took the dye. The towels are 8/2 cotton warp and weft while the knitted dish rags are "Sugar and Cream" cotton. I had a lot of fun weaving and knitting then dying.

On this dish rag I added an extra 'flower' to help when extra scrubbing is needed!

Woven Shibori Dye Workshop

My once a year dye workshop was great fun! Our focus was on woven shibori, but we had lots of other stuff to dye too. We usually use fiber reactive dyes but this year we added an indigo pot. We were dying woven shibori, t-shirts, commercial cloth, hats, socks, warps.... you name it and we might have put it in the dye pot! Plant fibers from cotton to silk to soy was in the pot or set aside to batch. We will see the finished articles at the next Diva meeting in July. It should be a great show and tell!!

Woven Shibori in the Bathroom

I have not posted for a while, but I have been weaving.

Here is my version of curtains in a bathroom! I threaded my loom to Bronson Lace and fiddled with the tie-up to get some long floats. Using 8/2 cotton warp and weft, sett 20 epi, 5/2 cotton resist threads.

I have dyed both sides and have to let it dry in the sun. I had a nice warm day last week for this.

I am taking out my resist threads. I will throw them away.

The resist threads are all removed. Here I am soaking my cloth in synthrapol to help remove the excess dye.
