Diva's and Taquete

The Diva's have been at it again. The combined program and show/tell was so awesome, that I will have to take a few days just to cover it all. For starters, we had Linda giving a very informative program on Taquete.

TAQUETE is a weft-faced compound tabby weave. It is also referred to as weft-faced summer and winter, weft-faced polychrome summer and winter (without tabby) and weft-faced two-tie unit weave. This weave lends its self to weaving with thick or thin fibers and from delicate bookmarks to thick rugs to clothing. The best patterns are suited for bold, contrasting colors and can be used for 4, 8 or unlimited shafts. Linda's examples below. Here color choices made her items extra great! Thanks Linda for the great information on Taquete!!!

More Tied Weave Scarf

While I am weaving this single two-tie unit weave scarf, I try to get into a rhythm and will always do eight picks before I move onto the next unit. I have tie downs on shafts 1 and 2, and the remaining shafts are dedicated to patterning. So for each unit I will weave eight shots (picks). Four will be with a tie down and a pattern treadle, and four with be with tabby. I have tied up my treadles below....

correction: Shaft five is 5-6-7.........
From this tie up, you will note that I will have to step on two treadles at the same time. To get tabby a- I will step on treadle one, to get tabby b- I step on treadles one and two. The same goes for the pattern shots. To weave the pattern on treadle 4, I will:
2+4, 1, 3+4, 2+3, 3+4, 1, 2+4, 2+3...... or 1, a, 2, b, 2, a, 1, b... or ......

1-2-2-1 order with a-b-a-b tabby order.

I still have not made it to the end of one repeat.

Tied Weave Scarf

Work has began in earnest on the single two-tied scarf. For those of you from the 'old school' (like me) it's also called summer and winter. I didn't play very much today, but I did get a few inches done. My pattern repeat is very long, I think that will be good for a scarf.
One thing I have noticed, so far, is that I didn't need to put on a two-tone warp because the long plain weave strips are covering up the second color. You will see the second warp color in the fringe, but that is about all. Lesson Learned!

Throwing the Shuttle Begins

I found some pink 140/2 silk that I will be using as the tabby for this single two-tie draft. Sometimes when you weave this structure (S2T) , it might not have as much drape as one would like. To counter that characteristic, I am using a much thinner tabby to help me get the drape I want. Anyway that is my thinking. Hope it works!

Another name is summer and winter for this draft. And because I really like the little circles, I am weaving this in 1-2-2-1 order with the tabby order as a-b-a-b. Of course, the x's will be on the other side, but I like looking at the circles as I weave.

Tabbies

I am trying to find a tabby that will work with this single two-tie scarf. I am pretty sure I will use black as the pattern weft, but can't decide on the tabby. I have some 'shinny' stuff, but ..........

How about some sparkle? I like this, but I don't think it would feel very good against your neck.

Here I am trying the metal green as tabby and as pattern. The green is thin enough that it feels OK, but I don't like it.

We will keep looking for the perfect tabby!

Through the Heddles

This Bamboo is really yummy! It feels like butter. This isn't a very wide warp, but it has taken me a while to get it this far. Hopefully I will get it beamed tomorrow and tie up the treadles so I can start throwing the shuttle. I think I should have enough to do some major sampling and get one scarf.

This is a single two-tie weave (summer and winter).

I hope you can see the two different colors in this photo.
