Inkle Loom Workshop

It was a very lively and sometimes quite workshop where we were learning about pick-up inkle weaving. Anita had her hands full with 13 of us trying our hand at this awesome looking technique. But I think at the end of the day, we all got it!

Here is a look at all the fun!

Congrats on this beautiful inkle pick up band. Could you please show a step by step picture or video where I can see how to do the pick up. It seems to me that I do mi something!

At this workshop we were doing 'Lithuanian' or 'Baltic' style pickup. There is a great youtube video. Just search on youtube for Baltic-Style Pick-Up by EdythMiller. There is also some info from Anita Apinis-Herman "Latvian Band Weaving Using Lettering. Just do a general search for that. A good book is: Norwegian Pick-Up Bandweaving by Heather Torgenrud. Or if you cannot find that book try 'The Weaver's Inkle Pattern Directory' by Anne Dixon.

What makes this different than plain-weave inkle loom weaving is the way you warp your loom. You use thick and thin threads in the pick-up pattern area.

Thanks for your question!
